This is by far one of my favorite thing about John Waters’ films starring Divine. These scenes with someone who is so Violently Visibly Queer simply walking down the street and people are so fucking terrified/confused that they just don’t even know what to do. These scenes actually make me want to be out in public, and that is saying a lot for someone with an anxiety disorder and unhealthy isolationist tendencies who has had the shit beaten out of them and physically and verbally harassed so many times just for existing visibly as they perceive themselves. And I still want that fucking dress from Female Trouble.

I saw him walking down 6th Ave in Manhattan one night a few years ago, flanked by these two tall, well dressed men. Looked like his feet didn’t touch the ground, he just glided by. There was a thunderstorm in the background too…. was sorta surreal.

This story is amazing! Of course John Waters is flanked by men to the soundtrack of thunder.

I would also like to be a Filth Elder.
